The Water Services Regulatory Board (Wasreb) is the statutory body charged with the regulation of the water services sector. In line with the Water Act 2016, Wasreb sets rules and enforces standards that guide the sector towards ensuring that consumers are protected and have access to efficient, affordable and sustainable services.
Wasreb has embarked on a process of developing a Strategic Plan that will chart the course of water services and sanitation regulation for the period 2018 to 2022 in line with the Vision 2030. In this period, Wasreb proposes to focus on the following strategic themes:
- Increasing access to water and sanitation services
- Improvement of governance
- Building collaborations and partnerships
- Development of internal capacity
The Constitution under Article 43 recognizes access to clean and safe water in adequate quantities and reasonable standards of sanitation as a fundamental human right. The progressive realisation and sustainability of the right to water, requires the input of multiple players, including national and county governments, consumers, development partners and the general public, guided by a national regulatory framework.
Wasreb therefore wishes to invite all sector players and members of the general public to peruse the proposed Strategic Plan and provide views and comments that can help improve strategies towards the realization of the right to water.
A copy of the proposed Strategic Plan may be accessed from the Wasreb website (www.wasreb.go.ke).
Please submit comments and memoranda to the address below by close of 28th February, 2018.
